Adult Competitions Update – 5 November
Some top of the table clashes have allowed a number of teams to open up slight gaps at the top of their divisions. In the Women’s Premier a 5-3 win for Old Georgians 1s over Brighton & Hove 1s has allowed them to open up a two point gap over Sevenoaks 2s who also remain unbeaten this season. The competition for the promotion spots from Divisions One East and West remains very tight with Holcombe W2 opening up a gap in the East after beating close rivals Tunbridge Wells W1. Guildford W2 and Woking W2 maintained their 100% records in the West.
Old Georgians M2 maintained their 100% record in the Men’s Premier with Aldershot and Farnham M1 losing ground after a 1-0 loss to Sevenoaks M2. In Divisions One East and West there was an impressive 5-0 win for Oxted M3 over Guildford M2 allowing Oxted to open up a 3 point gap at the top of the West division. Marden Russets M1 and Old Williamsonians M1 maintained their winning starts to the season opening up a 6 point gap over the third paced Gore Court M1 in the East.
The competition for promotion spots from Invicta, Martlets and Oaks is also fierce. With just one promotion spot guaranteed from each of the top divisions, in the Men’s Divisions Old Georgians M3 and Guildford M3 still have 100% records in Oaks Men’s Division 1. In Invicta Sevenoaks M3 have a one point lead over Old Williamsonians M2 and Cliftonville M1 whilst Brighton & Hove M3 now have a 3 point gap in Martlets 1 after beating Horsham M2 3-2. The Women’s divisions are equally competitive – Purley Walcountians W1 have a 3 point lead in Oaks Women’s Division 1 maintaining their 100% record and Knole Park W1 have a similar record in Invicta. South Saxons W1 are leading the way in Martlets – seeking to bounce straight back into the higher division after being relegated last season.
A few reminders for everyone:
- All teams across all divisions must complete team sheets, results and match reports;
- If you need to change the time or location of a fixture you must inform the opposition and the Divisional Representative at least 15 days prior to the change – it isn’t sufficient just to change the details on GMS;
- Teams who have appointed umpires must contact the umpires ahead on the fixture confirming the match details, team colours and other key match information.
On a sad note, the Adult League Management Committee would like to send their thoughts and condolences to Canterbury HC after the sad loss of Chris Figgis. Reflecting the words of your tribute – “an exceptional defender with great vision and versatility”.
