South East Hockey - Indoor Championships come to Canterbury this weekend
Canterbury’s Polo Farm will host a full weekend of South East Indoor Championship action on 13 and 14 December, with Area Women’s and Men’s indoor tournaments bringing some of the region’s top clubs together. Across both days, teams will compete in fast‑paced indoor formats, with appointed South East Hockey umpires and a packed schedule of matches from late morning through to early evening.
Saturday 13 December sees the Area Women’s Indoor Competition get underway, with venue access from 11:45 and the first warm-ups from 12:15. Folkestone, Maidstone, Marden and Old Wills will battle it out in 15‑minute‑each‑way matches, all coordinated by Tournament Director Debbie Garner. With games running through until 16:30, spectators can expect a full afternoon of high‑tempo indoor hockey.
On Sunday 14 December, attention turns to the Area Men’s Indoor Competition, with access from 10:30 and the first warm-ups starting at 10:30 ahead of the opening fixture at 10:40. Herne Bay, Woking, Epsom, Blackheath & Elthamians, Folkestone Optimist, Mid Sussex, Brighton & Hove and Tunbridge Wells line up in two pools, with matches of 13 minutes each way leading into semi‑finals and a final scheduled for 18:30. With games running throughout the day and knock‑out fixtures from 17:10, Sunday promises a dramatic finish to the weekend.
Tournament Director Debbie Garner will be the main point of contact for teams on arrival, and all umpires are appointed by South East Hockey. Teams are reminded that the second‑named side in each fixture is responsible for changing kit in the event of a colour clash and should bring alternative socks and bibs. Spectators are very welcome across both days, with plenty of opportunities to support your club and enjoy top‑quality indoor hockey at Polo Farm.
