South East Hockey is actively recruiting passionate volunteers to fill several key roles across our governance and delivery teams. Whether you're an experienced hockey administrator or looking to make your mark in a new area, we have opportunities to suit different experience levels and time commitments.
We're particularly seeking expressions of interest for:
- Information Officer
- Junior Chair
- Welfare Lead
- TAP (Technical Appointments Panel) Lead
- EHO Members Representative
- Divisional Representatives (always welcoming additional volunteers!)

Information Officer
Why This Role Matters
As our Information Officer, you'll be the hub of communications for South East Hockey, ensuring all volunteers, clubs, officials, and members have access to the information they need to thrive. This role supports the smooth flow of information across all our committees and programmes, from fixture updates to policy changes to key announcements.
What You'll Do
- Manage information requests and signposting across the Area
- Support the Board and committees with data gathering and reporting
- Maintain and update key information resources and documentation
- Coordinate information sharing across committees and with England Hockey
- Work closely with our webmaster and communications team to keep everyone informed
- Help create clarity and consistency in how we communicate with clubs and members
Who We're Looking For
- Detail-oriented and organised
- Strong communication and liaison skills
- Comfortable managing multiple information streams and priorities
- Able to work confidentially with sensitive data
- Reliable, diplomatic, and proactive
Time Commitment: 2–3 hours per week (flexible)
Support Available: Extensive handover and guidance from existing Area leadership; training on relevant systems and processes
Junior Chair
Why This Role Matters
The Junior Chair provides strategic leadership and direction for all junior hockey programmes across South East Hockey – from Under 10s through to Under 18s, including competitions, development, talent pathways, school partnerships, and coaching. This is a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of hockey players and developing future leaders of the sport.
Following successful delivery of our junior programmes, we're inviting additional expressions of interest for this role to ensure continuity, shared leadership, or future succession planning.
What You'll Do
- Provide strategic oversight of all junior hockey initiatives and committees
- Support junior competitions delivery (league, indoor, school finals, In2Hockey, tier 4)
- Support junior talent development and coaching pathways
- Coordinate with schools, clubs, and talent identification programmes
- Champion junior participation growth and inclusivity
- Work alongside Officiating and Club Development committees to support junior hockey holistically
- Represent junior hockey at Area Board level
Who We're Looking For
- Passion for youth development in hockey
- Experience in junior sport or club management (desirable but not essential)
- Strong leadership and strategic thinking
- Excellent communication with young people, parents, coaches, and clubs
- Organised and proactive problem-solver
- Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive culture
Time Commitment: 4–6 hours per week (variable by season)
Support Available: Close collaboration with existing committee members; guidance on England Hockey junior frameworks; support from Area leadership and administration
Welfare Lead
Why This Role Matters
The Welfare Lead is essential to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive hockey community for all participants. This role oversees safeguarding, member welfare, and support during challenging times – ensuring South East Hockey is a place where everyone feels valued and protected.
With increased focus on welfare and wellbeing across sport, this is a critical appointment for our Area.
What You'll Do
- Champion safeguarding and welfare across all South East Hockey activities
- Oversee DBS verification, safeguarding compliance, and policy implementation
- Provide confidential support and signposting for members facing challenges (illness, injury, bereavement, welfare concerns)
- Manage safeguarding incidents and liaise with England Hockey welfare team
- Lead education and training on safeguarding best practice for volunteers and clubs
- Foster a culture of inclusivity, respect, and care across the Area
- Support junior safeguarding with particular attention to child protection
- Maintain confidential records and ensure GDPR compliance
Who We're Looking For
- Strong commitment to safeguarding and member welfare
- Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures (England Hockey or sports safeguarding background helpful)
- Excellent listening and communication skills
- Trustworthy, discreet, and empathetic
- Able to handle sensitive matters professionally and confidentially
- Problem-solving approach to supporting members
Time Commitment: 2–3 hours per week (variable based on incidents)
Support Available: Training on England Hockey safeguarding policies; liaison with national welfare team; access to support resources; guidance from Area leadership
Divisional Representatives
Why This Role Matters
Divisional Representatives form the backbone of South East Hockey, connecting Area leadership directly with clubs and providing critical feedback, support, and communication at grassroots level. Whether you represent an adult league, junior section, or masters division, your role ensures clubs feel heard and supported.
We're always welcoming additional volunteers to expand our divisional rep network – particularly in areas where representation is stretched or absent.
What You'll Do
- Serve as primary liaison between your division and Area committees
- Gather feedback from clubs and convey issues, ideas, and concerns to Area leadership
- Help communicate Area updates, policy changes, and opportunities to your division
- Support fixture management, competition administration, and operational delivery
- Champion best practice and consistency within your division
- Attend regular meetings with Area committees (monthly/bi-monthly)
- Support clubs with guidance on rules, regulations, and processes
Who We're Looking For
- Active involvement in a club (as player, manager, volunteer, or parent)
- Good communication and liaison skills
- Willingness to attend committee meetings
- Organised and detail-oriented
- Collaborative approach to problem-solving
- Understanding of your division's needs and dynamics
Time Commitment: 1–2 hours per week (meeting attendance + communication)
Support Available: Briefings from outgoing reps; support from committee chairs; guidance on processes and policies
Other Key Roles Open
TAP (Technical Appointments Panel) Lead
Coordinate and manage appointments of technical officials across South East Hockey tournaments and events. Support tournament directors, judges, and match officials in their development and delivery.
Ideal for: Those with experience in technical officiating or tournament management.
EHO Members Representative
Represent the interests, views, and feedback of England Hockey Officiating (EHO) members at Area level. Act as the voice of umpires, technical officials, and officiating volunteers across the Area.
Ideal for: Current or former officials keen to advocate for the officiating community.
