How to develop your Umpiring

Umpire Development & Courses

The SE Umpire Development Team provides support, including coaching and assessing, for panel umpires (EHO - Gold/Silver/Legacy members) taking neutral appointments. The team also runs a range of support activities for umpires across SE.

The Development Team supports umpires of all ages to help them reach their potential.

The Team aims to create a tailored approach for each appointed panel umpire. The Team also aims to watch every appointed panel umpire at least once per season, with many getting intensive coaching. Any panel umpire who wants more support is encouraged to contact their panel lead.

SE Officiating also has a dedicated team headed up by Philip Hook who can assist clubs and their club umpires (EHO Bronze members). If you want to know more, please see the Club Development section in the SE website.

As well as the England Hockey courses, the SE Development Team has created its own SE “Guidance to Umpires”. It is designed to offer practical support and the Team have tried to make it as comprehensive as possible. All associated documents can be found in the block on the right of this page.
